About

The Aosta Race Academy has been set up by Phil Brown and is run by Impulse Racing

Impulse Racing has been running for 3 seasons as a flexible programme whereby training and racing are run throughout the winter, mainly at the venues where the British races are held.  Last season, we ran training and race camps for 17 weeks of the season between November and the British champs in Meribel in April.

With this level of programme, we believed it was time to establish a base in the alps and introduce an education element to compliment and build on our successful skiing programme. After careful consideration of a number of resorts/areas, The Aosta Valley in Italy stood out, with training, for the main part, in Pila, and accommodation in, or close to, Aosta town.

The reasoning behind this is that the area is easily accessible with 3 major airports (all well served from the UK) within 2 hours drive. The town itself is easy to get to and the skiing area of Pila is accessible from the town by a single gondola. For travel to other races (Welsh, English etc.) we are well situated and we will be able to run the BARSC camp from our base.

The Aosta Location

The Aosta tourist office is very helpful and are completely on board with the operation. Helping with accommodation and piste organisation etc.

Accommodation

We have secured apartment accommodation just outside of the main town of Aosta in a converted farmhouse with facility for tuning, internet access and fitness facilities close by. We are planning to eat ‘in house’ for the bulk of the season and will have dedicated catering staff for this. This gives us full control over the athletes diet (at base) helping to get the best out of the athletes.

Pastoral care

We have a live in female houseparent with 2 seasons experience in the role with additional athletes parents complimenting this through the season.

Programme

We run a flexible programme. This will mainly run on race weeks with additional training weeks at base for those who wish. The education element will be available to all of those on the flexible programme, but will be dependent on time of booking and numbers at the academy during the booked time.

Typical Day

Our typical day in the winter will involve training on the hill in the morning, lunch, education then fitness, with days off scheduled into each week for recuperation.

Teaching will be for 2-3 hours per day for 5/6 days on the weeks that we are at the base in Aosta.
